Lighting Specification Guide for Hospitality Projects
May 12, 2026
What a lighting specification actually is
A lighting specification tells everyone involved exactly what fixture goes where, how it performs, and what standards it meets. For hospitality, specs must cover photometric performance, electrical requirements, physical dimensions, materials and IP ratings, and certifications .
Zone-by-zone specification checklist
Lobby: 2700-3000K, CRI 90+, dimmable. Guest rooms: 2700K, CRI 90+. Corridors: 3000K, CRI 80+. Restaurant: 2200-2700K, warm-dim. Spa: 2400-2700K, IP44 minimum. Exterior: 3000K, IP65.
Common specification mistakes
Specifying color temperature without CRI. Ignoring SDCM. Forgetting maintenance access. Over-specifying one zone while under-specifying another.
How Maison Loucelle supports the process
IES photometric files, detailed spec sheets, finish samples on request , CAD and Revit files for BIM integration.
A good specification protects everyone: the designer's vision, the contractor's schedule, and the guest's experience.
