Professional rule of thumb: fixture diameter in centimetres is roughly 8.3 times the sum of room length and width in metres (in inches: length plus width in feet); fixture height grows with ceiling height; keep at least 2.1 m (7 ft) of clearance in circulation areas and 75 to 90 cm (30 to 36 in) above a table.
